About KimiPostpartum Doula Helping Families in LA
Hello, and thank you so much for stopping by!
I am Kimi Goodrich, a CAPPA trained Postpartum Doula, based in Redondo Beach. I have two wonderful children, Dylan (17) and Myles (15) who keep me fully entertained and bursting with pride. Prior to living in California, my family lived in NYC. We’ve been here for about 10 years and have loved every moment of it!
My road to becoming a Postpartum Doula was part epiphany and part gently led. When we relocated to Cali, I took a few years off from working to help the kids acclimate to living in a new state. Volunteering at Jefferson Elementary school, I fell into teaching Hands on Art, and eventually chaired the HOA department. During that time I was amazed at the wonderful community I lived in, and felt such a special energy working with children and their families.
After my last year of chairing the art department, and running a successful fundraiser for all of the 18 schools in the district, I was eager to start something new for my career. I knew that I didn’t want to work the long hours of advertising, which is what my profession was back in NYC, and I also knew that I wanted to continue to be involved with families and children. A very dear friend of mine and mother at the school, Stephanie Morales, founder of The Mother Nurture Center in Redondo Beach, suggested I become a postpartum doula. She thought it would be a great match with my skill set, my affinity to be close with families and natural desire to help out wherever I could. After a bit of research I realized that this profession was spot on with everything I had hoped to find in a career.
I immediately began working on the certification process, poring over books, taking courses, and expanding my knowledge of baby care. I took my CAPPA Postpartum Doula training with the esteemed Darla Burns five months later and started working with my first few families not long after that, with Darla continuing to be a mentor and guidance counselor for me as I gained my footing.
Since then I have been consistently amazed and humbled by this work that I found my way to. I’ve been fortunate to have a steady stream of clients who appreciate what I offer, referring me to their friends, and fellow colleagues who refer me to their birth clients. I have worked with some of the most amazing women in the field and learned so much from them, which has only made me better at what I do. The postpartum doula and birthing community is rich with resources and everyone shares the common goal of commitment to a better birth and postpartum experience.
I hope that I am lucky enough to work with your expanding family, and offer you an extra set of helping hands during this exciting new time in your life.
